This is going to be a repository of useful stuff.  It will be perpetually under construction.

Tire brands

Dunlop Elite
401
This is not what I'd call a quality tire. Wet weather grip is barely acceptable. All around handling is minimal. Tires get chewed through in approximately 5,000 miles. Also, unaffectionately referred to as DunRocks, DumbFlops, and DumbAsRocks.
Avon Super Venom
(AM 18)
This is a quality tire. It is priced comparable with the stock DumbAsRocks, and has incredible handling with great wet weather grip. I ran this tire on Gypsy, front and back. It's a little too soft of a compound (gets eaten up too quickly, in my opinion), so I'm no longer running these. Mind you they will still outlast the DunRocks. They'd be ideal for sportbikers.
Avon Venom X
(AM 41 & AM 42)
Another quality tire. Also priced comparable with the stock DumbAsRocks. The compound is less soft than the Super Venom, but still has a SAE butt-load more grip than the stock Dumflops. I'm running these on Gypsy and love them.
Metzeler Marathon
(ME 880)
Also a quality tire. Gozer is running these on Niah and is very happy with the performance.

Tire Changing

In order to change a tire, you first need a few tools.
Tire Irons.

You will want 2 or 3 to help pry the tire over the rims.
Valve Core Removal tool.

Makes deflating the tire a 10 second job, rather than a 10 minute job.
Tire changing station and bead-breaker.

Good information on building a tire changing station and changing tires can be found here. I'm not going to rewrite the story.

I opted for the harbor freight portable tire changer with the motorcycle tire attachment. If you go this route, I highly suggest you bolt it to the ground.

So far I've changed the tires on Gypsy, Niah and Scarlet a couple of times. Also, changed the tires on a couple of friends' vehicles. The cost savings of doing it yourself really pays off. I can not stress enough what a difference quality tires make over the stock tires.
Air compressor and accessories.

With the right accessories, a good air compressor is so insanely useful.
  • with a tire chuck, inflating your tires means you don't have to search for a gas station that has a working tire pump
  • with an air impact driver and an air socket wrench, most nuts and bolts are not a problem
  • with a cutting tool, it makes minced-meat out of most metal object needing cutting
  • with the blow gun, use it to dust the garage
  • with an compressor-powered pressure washer, cleaning the driveway is cake
  • with the blow gun, use it for cleaning out the drain line of the Air Conditioner for the house
  • with the blow gun, after working in the garage for a while, use it to blow the sweat off the body
  • with the blow gun, use it to lift the skirts of the wymyn-folk as they come through the garage
  • with the blow gun, use it to to scare the children or animals that come through the garage
